||Card Platforms, Data, & Machine Learning (PDML) Strategy & Analytics Role Description
The PDML Strategy & Analytics team helps drive significant, meaningful change across Capital One’s technology platforms. Our platforms play critical roles for the company, including growing new customers through marketing and acquisitions, powering our way to first-in-wallet status through authorizations, and executing everything in a real-time, personalized way by leveraging machine learning.
Our team works to keep Capital One at the forefront of financial services technology. Our team resides in Card Platforms, Data & Machine Learning, which is responsible for delivering tools and capabilities to segments across Card (e.g. Upmarket, Mainstreet, Fraud, and Customer Resiliency) and the Enterprise. Card Innovation drives strategic decisions about what Capital One should build on its own and what we should bring in from outside. We take a broad view of external innovation, considering everything from fast-moving startup partnerships to cutting-edge Big Tech alliances.
What You’ll Do as a member of the PDML Strategy & Analytics team
Our teams work on strategic initiatives across PDML, Card, and the Enterprise to bring unique viewpoints and strategic capabilities that help product and tech teams deliver better. As part of our team, you could be part of projects involving a ton of exciting work.
Help drive Capital One’s internal and external innovation strategy over the next 18-36 months by helping guide senior leaders’ decisions about what capabilities they’ll need and determining the best strategy to deliver those capabilities
Work closely with senior leaders, product managers, technologists and partner teams across the enterprise to increase speed to market, deliver higher impact outcomes from our tech investments, and drive business value through strategic initiatives and large programs
Work at the center of major Card and Enterprise wide initiatives in a variety of analytic and strategic roles to plan and influence tech investments and support prioritization decisions to increase growth, drive business value, and process improvements across the business
Drive business outcomes for key priorities across both Card and the Enterprise by working with partner teams to define intent, develop a grounded analytics roadmap, and deliver results by programmatically managing the efforts of the team
Identify where external innovation could impact our thinking or solution. Help teams define their intent by applying a product mindset. As you build your expertise, help teams push their thinking to new opportunity areas
Lead market scans for emerging capabilities to identify what could have the most impact, work with Tech teams to define the LOE to build best-in-class capabilities, then synthesize these viewpoints into grounded recommendations of the best way to deliver (build or buy)
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a well-rounded analyst who can lead initiatives from idea to execution by partnering with various leaders and teams across the organization. If you have a bias for action, strong management skills, and a passion for bringing structure to ambiguous situations, then you could be a great fit!
Experience at a leading management consulting firm or with a top-tier corporate strategy or venture capital group (including corporate/strategic)
Experience with strategy and innovation in technology or financial services; start-up experience is a plus
Comfort with both quantitative analytics and qualitative problem-solving
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage end-to-end processes that involve a cross-functional stakeholder set (i.e. “herd the cats” and “bring order to chaos”); ideally able to create new processes that make work better and faster
Strong interest in exploring new topic areas and the ability to clearly articulate unfamiliar, complicated topics to senior audiences
Strong interpersonal and communications skills (oral and written) combined with a customer-first mindset and high EQ
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively
Bachelor’s degree or military experience
At least 2 years of experience in analysis
Master’s Degree in Business or quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Physical Sciences, Math, Statistics, Engineering
5+ years of experience in analysis
2+ years of experience in financial services
1+ year of experience in consulting
2+ years of experience in people management
