Description : Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Operating Officer (COO), will have both internal and some external facing responsibilities, ranging from client support to administration, strategy, vision, leadership and operations. The COO oversees all internal functions, freeing up the CEO to focus on external matters such as fundraising, public relations, and partnerships. Internal functions include those that support the programs, staff and board of directors. This is a process-minded role that develops a performance culture within the agency and delivers measurable results. The position contributes to the development and achievement of the organization’s strategic and financial goals and implements efficient and effective systems to increase the productivity of the organization. In addition, the COO develops and implements general operating policies and procedures, as well as contributes to the development of and manages the organization-wide strategy for program excellence, engaging community partners, and partnering with the CEO and board of directors.

Responsibilities
• Serve as the internal leader of the organization
• Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the CEO informed of all critical issues
• Provide for all staff a strong day-to-day leadership presence and support an open-door policy
• Lead and manage all agency programs and services
• Develop and implement a performance management process that measures and evaluates progress against goals for the organization
• Develop, implement and manage the program aspects of the annual operating budget in conjunction with the CEO and CFO. Report monthly on progress made and challenges encountered
• Support the accounting team which provides the organization with access to financial information and enables strategic budgeting
• Support fund development and revenue generating efforts
• Present to the board quarterly and support the board committees
• Contribute to the development and achievement of Byrd Barr Place’s strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall management of the organization
• Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach
• Provide analytical support to Byrd Barr Place’s senior leadership team
• Implement and lead a continuous quality improvement process throughout the programs, focusing on systems/process improvement and customer service
• Ensure that all program activities operate consistently and in compliance with contracts and agreements
• Share in knowledge dissemination, reporting, and communications
• Represent the organization externally, as necessary
Requirements : Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree required; MBA or similar advanced degree desired
• Minimum 5 years experience in a senior management position in a nonprofit organization, foundation, or government agency
• Familiarity with nonprofit finance and accounting regulations
• Solid knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
• Exceptional written, oral, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with Byrd Barr Place’s board of directors, and staff
• Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical initiatives
• Exceptional capacity for managing and leading people
• Ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, and good humor
• Remain focused in the face of pressure, delivers against timelines, not challenged by tasks/time limitations
• Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills
